Serotonin Foods
Food rich in carbohydrates cause an increase in the concentration of tryptophan – an amino acid which our body converts it into serotonin.
Bananas, chocolate, turkey, pumpkin, food rich in folic acid – cabbage, broccoli, spinach and beets are among the best well known “serotonin foods“.
According to nutritionists, these foods contain tryptophan – substance that increases the serotonin in the body. Researchers say it is not a coincidence that when we are angry or stressed we feel the need to eat sweets. The food rich in carbohydrates cause an increase in the concentration of tryptophan. Therefore, foods containing carbohydrates induce a sense of calm, peace and satisfaction, because they increase the production of serotonin in the brain.
Doctors say that for a sense of well-being is important to eat foods that contain carbohydrates, especially in the women case. According to nutritionists, their bodies produce less serotonin than men. Therefore, women are more prone to depression. To this thing adds also the vulnerability influenced by the hormonal changes, especially those during puberty, but also after birth or after menopause. Fruits, vegetables, brown rice, oat biscuits, beans, lentils and potatoes are foods rich in carbohydrates - foods that are responsible for our happiness.
Bananas - These fruits contain tryptophan, a type of protein which our body converts it into serotonin. Nutritionists point out that these fruits contain a significant amount of sugar, which is why they are recommended with caution for diabetes patients.
Chocolate – This food has aphrodisiac properties and is the best known antidepressant food in the world. In chocolate, we find three substances responsible for the well-being: phenylethylamine – a similar substance to amphetamines which produces for the body an unexplained sense of well-being, anandamide – chemical compound that determine euphoria, and of course tryptophan amino acid.
Turkey meat also manages to improve our disposal, because it contains a lot tryptophan than a lot of the foods that are available today.
